The 8 variants of the camo that most every M151A2 and any M151s & A1s in inventory from 1975 on, wore at some time in their life.
Current 3 color NATO camo, approved for installation 1983 onward. So in theory no M151 series vehicle owned by the US government ever left the factory in 3 color camo.
Straight Tan, no other color
Figure out those numbers. Size, location, what order, acronyms, etc.... Star placement and size.
Then all those extras put on like the picture above.
An authentic shade of Olive Drab used on almost all vehicles during the Vietnam War.
So all M151s, M151A1s, Ford M151A2s and the 71 contract AM General M151A2s should have left the factory in this color.

In 1975 the trials were complete, and the familiar four-color scheme had been selected. Technical manual 5-200 "Camouflage Pattern Painting" was released. This contained the templates for color placement on all of the vehicles in service, as well as codifying regulations for how the pattern was supposed to be applied.

This section is full of both "by the book" info and lots of actual pictures of vehicles. Both new and well used with dates on as many as possible.
PLEASE NOTE there was many years of overlap in many cases. Where one base used the old system and another base the new. This is very common with USMC vehicles.
UPCOMING INFO - 1960 to ... mainly dealing with "straight" M151s.
Markings used both in Vietnam and around the globe 1965ish to 1974ish
The Start of MERDEC to just before 3 color camo
3 color camo and related
Early Vietnam used the WWII style of marking vehicles. 1967ish the markings changed to the full unit symbols in red and yellow. There was also a variation with white main symbol.
ALL USMC M151 series vehicles were either 300000 or 500000 series registration numbers
Symbols went away for unit designation, and a system where an M followed by a 5 digit number referenced the specific unit. DoDAAC or Dept of Defense Activity Address Codes
Examples: M13210 = 1st MARDIV 2ND BN 1ST MARINES
M11120 = 1st MARDIV 1ST BN 1ST MARINES
There is a LONG list of these #s
ALL USMC M151 series vehicles were either 300000 or 500000 series registration numbers. By 1974 the 500000 series was being used. I do not have an exact date yet.
