M151A1C & M825 - 106mm Recoilless Rifle Carrier

Additional Information

The M151A1C and M825 1/4 ton 4x4 vehicles are equipped with a 106mm recoilless rifle on an M79 rifle mount. To complete this mobile weapons system, provisions are made for carrying six rounds of ammunition and weapon tools.

The M151A1C and M825 series is modified from the base vehicle in the following way.

  • Relocated spare tire right side & gas can to the left side of the vehicle.
  • Overload springs and related spacers placed inside existing rear springs.
  • Rear panel of vehicle is not installed in the open area of the "bed", creating a squared opening where the RR bracket assembly is installed.
  • Barrel support mounted to the floor in the passenger foot well.
  • Provisions on right front fender for straps to secure shovel.
  • Radio mount is somewhat integral to RR mount behind passenger seat.
  • Drop in metal framework that holds the 2 gunners seats the M79 Recoilless mount, 6 - 106mm ready rounds, and radio mount. Also a spare parts tool box behind the drivers seat.

The M151A1C was used widely in Vietnam and a large number can be seen in period photos. By contrast the M825 (M151A2 base vehicle) was made in fairly small numbers. With the TOW missile launcher being installed on the M151A2 as early as 1970. The desire to have the M825 lessened, with the US military transitioning to the TOW over the 106mm Recoilless Rifle. 1973 looks to be the last year of production for the M825 (for US use). M825s were made for other foreign governments post 1973.
