M718 & M718A1 Ambulance

Additional Information

The M718 and m718A1 1/4 ton frontline ambulance trucks are designed to carry ambulatory and litter patients. The cargo area of the M718 and M718A1 vehicles are longer and higher to accommodate the litters and patients.

The M718 and M718A1 series is modified from the base vehicle in the following ways.

  • Extension bolted to the rear of the base vehicle to make it longer.
  • Relocated spare tire and gas can to the right side of the vehicle.
  • Provisions on right front fender for straps to secure split set or other related.
  • Passenger seat is modified with hinges to fold forward and flat to bottom cushion.
  • Enclosure / Top is taller and uses a completely new framework to accommodate the extra space available.
  • Mounts, rails, brackets and related are installed so 3 military stretchers can be placed in the vehicle at one time.

In Vietnam many M718s were used for general base transport or ambulatory (walking wounded) troops. With the mounts, rails and brackets removed. Thus providing a rear sitting area for 4 personel, along with the 2 front seats.
