Tires, Rims & Spare Tire Plate

Tires - Different tire manufacturers over the years

700x16 NDCC is the correct tire - Goodyear, Cooper, Denman, Mohawk, STA, Firestone,

Rims - 2 different types of rims used in the production of the M151

  1. The rims used on the prototype vehicles look like the normal steel rims used on the M151 series. Except every 3rd hole in the outer dish is not "punched" out.
  2. Magnesium rims made by 2 different Mfg. ALCOA & Kelsey Hayes. As can be seen in the pictures it is a very subtle difference in the casting of the rim.
  3. Standard steel rims used from 1964 till end of production.
  4. These were not a issue rim & tire they were only used on the modified FAV, CAV, and other special operation vehicles. The tire size will rub on the body without serious modification to the body.

ALL M151 series rims/wheels are "5 on 5.5" lug spacing

Spare tire plates - 4 variations used during the service life of the M151

  1. Early spare tire plate. It is unclear when this was replaced by the #2 plate. But common thought is all straight M151s had this style and M151A1s had style #2.
  2. M151A1 series Spare tire plate with bolted on reflector
  3. M151A2 series Spare tire plate Same as version #2 except no holes for adding a reflector. This plate used a reflective honeycomb sticker.
  4. Similar to #3 but the bottom is wide for use of a 6 1/2" x 3/4" red reflector

Spare tire spacer plate - These are surplus and were not made after market. I remember doing some research years ago and these were for use with a radio equipped M151 series vehicle so the top could be removed without loosening or removing the spare tire to get the top off.
